The Burning Shores by SamODJ The Burning Shores by SamODJ
Whilst I re-vamp and re-tool my portfolio, I decided to give this piece another crack. Tightened up the lighting and presentation of the piece and illustrated a far moodier atmosphere.

SICK, I like the overall composition, and the detailing is pretty good. Some of the lighting is a bit over blotchy, but hey, it gives it style. Love the structures. I really can't say what would be wrong with it, just I think it could use more little details. But it's very good in the way it looks since it gives it a lot of a painting feel to the whole work.

GOOD JOB MAN!

As far as details go i'm planning on maybe adding some ships into the image, maybe a settlement on the right hand side. Thanks for the criticism buddy.

not a problem, concept ships sound like a plan, and a settlement would look just neat, shall be interesting how this shapes up more.

This one's definetily better  the lighting and colours are still rich but in a more natural way. The only thing bugging me is the reflection of that distant monument...It should be practically the same length as the real thing, just more blurry and broken up, especially in the parts that get further away from the water surface. But the reflection is suggesting it's only half the size :O

And I want to be nitpicky and say the placement of the sun dosn't match up with the rays. If you were to use the line tool over a lot of the rays, each line parallel to the ray its in and have them go for a while, the part where they'd all meet up is likely where the sun will have to be, which I think will be higher and a little more right here. Though most people wouldn't care about that, but you did mention something about a portfolio so I thought you might have wanted to know :p

I really, really like this! I think better than the original. I love how you changed the volcano and the atmosphere and mood of the whole picture is amazing. I think it was also a good choice to delete the tower on the right, because the perspective of this did not seem to fit perfectly in the old one :7
