The RIFT Create a Colossus Contest

Just about managed to get my submission for the Rift competition done (at least, as done as I could manage this early in the morning). I dread to think how many hours I have spent on this now and it still isn't as completed as I had originally envisaged.

Still, this competition has been a good exercise in how to paint characters and environment; whereas previously my techniques were dominated by photo-manipulation, they have taken a step back since I've started practising with my Wacom tablet full time (with the help of Feng Zhu's video tutorials).

I wish every one luck with the contest (and god knows there are some sublime entries so far) and here is hoping that I can make it to the semi finals this time around.

I present to you Be'Lial, the Colossus of Fire.

I like the unique feeling this gives, I like that his head isn't a head, it's some sort of platform, and I like the lava crystals. He's big and scary which is nice, but he sure looks like he has more earth than fire in him.

That is true, I had originally planned on doing an earth based colossus, but due to the fact that there were many already submitted I decided to alter the submission. I reckon the rock still works, as if this colossus has risen from the magma and cooled to form these rock plates of armour.

This guy looks sturdy and maybe even fast, I'd like to see something like this on the game, dude, people like you are contributing to the game with some amazing material, they´re lucky.

What's that on the shoulder? are theese high temoerature crystals or something?
