Exploration by SamODJ Exploration by SamODJ
After taking a gander at [link] by I was provoked to re-think my current state of art. I've been having trouble recently with how I work - lack of practice, lack of knowledge, lack of inspiration - whatever it is I have hit a block. A block stopping me from creating.

So if my current mindset is incapable of creation, I thought I should enter the mindset of someone else. Work through a different route. Obviously there is a pretty severe degree of similarity between my result and Brandon's Solace, but creating art though someone else's means can help you refocus and expand on your own.

....

Now if only I could create a good looking set of stars :(

That is spot on bro. The interior of it is angelic. There's a great amount of depth inside. It's like there's something going on in there (obviously there is. ;) ) and it makes you wonder. Thats one aspect I always tried to put into my nebula work. Instead of trying to work scale and "shape" I always wanted to create a sort of "cloudy mass" with something powerful and brilliant going on in the inside. "Star Ocean" would have reflected as such but... well I won't get into that one.

It's interesting to see someone's variant of something I've done. My nebula work was never heralded from the rooftops but it was mine nonetheless.

A great effort getting thoughts down in this work. Like I said. That interior is angelic. Makes me wish I could see just what was going on in there. Stars forming, brilliant explosions of gas and luminance... what sort of phenomenon would we see? Probably light dancing in ways sci-fi films could never immitate. ;)

Two works that got me thinking "What's going on INSIDE a nebula?" for future reference (I'd like to see you tackle a larger nebula project, just out of curiosity): [link] [link]

Nice work my friend. Well done. ;)

Also, I have to concede that taking a look at your method helped me form a different perspective on how I would light the nebula. Not only that, but yesterday, after reading the Capturing Heaven article once again, I think i'm a tad more refocussed on an actual illustration - opposed to something that is merely flashy.
