- With desolation in the chasm of space, bodies lose themselves, forever forgotten. Artifacts rise to the surface or remain untouched. Lost. Undone. -
This is the final product, inspired by a number of things. First of all the EVE soundtrack; particularly good for creating mood for art. Also the ramblings of Edgen by lured me to a track titled "Light Between Shadows" - seemingly apt in relation to this.
I feel rejuvinated with this. I'm beginning to think that this piece marks a step towards something, but i'm unsure as to whether that is understanding or merely technique. Either way, I hope you enjoy this creation as much as I enjoyed crafting it.
EDIT: Almost forgot to credit for stock used within the planet creation.
I really like the concept! Love how the colors in certain areas contrast and yet, compliment each other. Pleasing to the eye, yet draws the viewer in.

Hmm... the planet is working. My only quam at this stage is the scale of the backside texture. There is not enough detail to make the black spots truly plausible to the image. The thing that most fail at with planets is the scale of the texture. I can't count on all my fingers and toes how many textures I've worked hours on to just toss once I spherized because the texture literally fell apart under the forced rescale. Try taking the spherized texture and create new layers above for building more texture into the surface. Yes we could say the black spots are craters but the craters would still have more definition and detail. True we are a great distance away but the intricate random pattern of scale on a planets surface would be very very random and detailed no matter the distance.
The second thing I'd suggest is working depth into the texture of the gases. The thing I still see that ruins the images for me is that people are paining on a flat texture sharpening it a few times and calling it deep. Unfortunately if they have just plenty of pretty colors and objects to hold the eye the flaw of the gas or poorly composed planet textures will wind up getting them a DD. Work depth into the gases. Just because there are random shapes does not mean it works the depth of the image. Any of the great ones will prove this just by browsing through their galleries.
Between you and AP123 I see my long time hope becoming reality that someone will "get it" and push the genre into new realistic areas. You have my backing. 100%. You and AP are exceptions to the rule here. I wink at your talent.
Almost you move me to take on a new project. Almost.
this is very nice, but not your best, the shadowed part of the planet has a nice texture, but looks too flat. could use some more...well details and bump
nebula is gorgeous as usual
